Maximizing Greenhouse Space
Knowing how to maximize space in a greenhouse is necessary. While you do not want to stuff the place, you should try to get as much room as possible for your plants. Here are some suggestions.
Plan as You Plant
Even before you buy the unit, get an idea of what you want to do with it. Think of what plants and vegetables you are going to put there. These greens come in assorted sizes. Stocking up on large plants will crowd even the largest units.
The reverse is true with smaller plants. As you start planting, always think of what you are doing. With a little planning, you can always keep the size and space manageable.
Put Non Essential Tools Somewhere Else
As you grow plants, your gardening tools will expand. Pretty soon, you will have trowels, spades, assorted gloves and benches. This will crowd the greenhouse, so put them somewhere else.
Only put the stuff you really use like pots, soil containers, plant vitamins etc in it. Consider buying some shelves to store the equipment. You can also put a container outside the structure where you can store these items (make sure the container still has protection from the elements).
Tip: do not be tempted into buying all sorts of gardening accessories. Only get the stuff you really need. It will save you space and money.
Get More Shelves
Here are other ideas on how to maximize space in a greenhouse. These units have benches or shelves. Arrange the plants cleanly so space is used well. Some of these benches also have storage room under them.
If they don’t have one, you can get benches that have storage rooms below them. You can also get shelves to put in other sections of the unit. This will conserve space.
Note: do not put shelves by the walls if they block out the sunlight for the plants below. Avoid putting shelves there if it blocks the view. Instead, put the shelves in unobtrusive locations.
Prune and Get Rid of the Dead Flowers
Get rid of dead plants and flowers. Trim the flowers and plants regularly. This is an effective way to save space and reduce clutter. Tip: be choosy about the plants you put in the structure.
Other Space Saving Tips
Some people like to put chairs in the greenhouse and use it as a sunroom. If you have the space, this is all right. But if space is limited, remove the chairs.
Be selective about the shelves you buy. The design will determine how much space you can save. If you know some gardening enthusiasts, look at the designs they made.
Always buy durable benches. The cheap ones will deteriorate quickly, so it is better to settle for the costly but durable types. When rearranging the plants, make sure the plants do not get damaged. Also avoid moving them around too much unless needed.
It takes a lot of planning to maximize space in a greenhouse. However, the time you put in will be beneficial to the plants. With the right spacing, your plants will benefit greatly.
