Aluminum Staging for Greenhouses
Aluminum staging for greenhouses are the most practical of the various staging units available today. The following are some of the advantages of using aluminum over other materials.
Why Use Aluminum?
Aluminum is light, so you can relocate it more easily than wood. It is also water resistant and durable. This is very important especially if your area is subject to weather extremes. While wood is more attractive, it does not offer the same versatility and durability that aluminum does.
Types and Variants
These staging units are available in different styles. However, they are generally classified by the tier, height and depths. The units are also differentiated by the slats and trays which may be added.
There are also heavy duty units for heavy loads. If you are an alpine grower, you can opt for units with 15 cm deep plunge beds. There are also aluminum shelves and seed tray racks available.
Single Tier Units
A single tier unit is typically freestanding. Those composed from aluminum are ideal for the hobbyist or the professional grower. The advantage of using benching units made of aluminum is their low maintenance.
The single tiers are usually 81cm (32″) high. They come in a variety of widths and lengths. If you are looking for one, get a unit with safety edged trays. Look for units that are light but durable.
Majority of these units have removable trays, ideal for spring hardening off. Removable trays will also be handy if you grow cucumber. Buyers should also look for aluminum trays that can be used as gravel trays.
Two Tier Staging Units
Aluminum staging for greenhouses will provide you with the extra room for growing or working at the top. You will also get storage space for the seed trays. These units are set in various lengths.
You can also buy two tier units with slats or trays. The trays can be used to make a bigger working area. The slats on the other hand, will provide air flow for the plants and seed trays.
If you are doing heavy duty planting, check the weight capacity of the unit. Some units can handle up to 77 kg of compost, but this will vary depending on the product.
You should also get aluminum trays, as they are more durable than other material. The units can also be used as watering benches. For this to work, you will need to purchase capillary matting.
For the lower tier, aluminum is also the best choice. It will provide the needed air flow when large plants are over-wintered.
Three Tier Units
These are usually 122cm/48″ high. You will have a top level with two tiers below it. This will provide you with the most room for working and growing. There are also trays and slats available for this type. The guidelines mentioned for the other tier types also apply here.
The aluminum staging for greenhouses are competitively priced, and their durability makes them a worthy investment. Your investment will pay when your plants start to grow and flourish.
